Congrats to Capt. Fin Gaddy on the Qualifer for winning this weekend’s Dare County Boat Builders Foundation Billfish Tournament.
Capt. Gaddy’s boat – built by Paul Mann – scored 1600 points to win.
Second went to Capt. Charles Haywood on the Rigged Up – an Omie Tillet-built boat – with 1400 points. Capt. Brynner Parks on the Smoker – built by Irving Forbes – was third with 1100 points.
The tournament was designed several years ago to celebrate the long and famous county tradition for boat building. Hatteras-style fishing yachts are known world-wide.
Sailfishing was incredible over the weekend. The winning boat caught 16 in two days of fishing. The runner-up had 14. The 19-team field caught a total of 111 sailfish and two white marlin.
There were 7 Paul Mann-built boats in the field.
Paul Mann on the Qualifier was the top angler for the tournament. Shelby Zimmer on the Smoker was the top female angler. Holton Clifton on the True Grit – a Paul Mann vessel – was the top junior angler.
