Jarrett Bay Delivers Its Largest Custom Sportfish To Date

77’ Blank Check – A truly unique package of performance, quality and luxury

Beaufort, NC (June 18, 2013) – Jarrett Bay Boatworks recently delivered the company’s newest flagship, and largest custom sportfish built to date, the 77’ Blank Check. No strangers to big game fishing, and Jarrett Bay’s newest family members, the Doyle Family enjoyed a triple header white marlin release on the Blank Check’s first day offshore during the Big Rock Lady Angler Tournament earlier this month.

From her cold-molded fir and Okume bones to fiberglass skin coated in glossy Alexseal Cloud White, the 77’ Jarrett Bay stays true to its custom Carolina heritage, yet represents the next evolution in sportfish performance and functionality. Thanks to prop tunnels, the 77’s shaft angle is lower, yielding increased speed and efficiency – and a noteworthy draft of less than six feet. The high-speed stainless rudders and struts and a bottom with no through-hull protrusions or fairings result in an incredibly fast and sleek running surface.

The Blank Check’s interior mirrors her sleek exterior with high-gloss cherry veneers throughout its five stateroom, six head layout. Flawless joinery covers her TriCel composite keeping the weight to speed ratio at top performance levels without sacrificing durability in the roughest seas. The 77’s sweeping mezzanine overhang gives way to a massive 255-sq. ft. cockpit, complete with two pressurized live-wells with capacities up to 125 gallons.

Under the hood, you’ll find twin 16V-2000 MTUs rated at 2,600hp. Carrying 3,200 gallons of fuel, the 77 hits a top speed of 41 kts and cruising speed of 35 kts. With nearly 60 custom builds to date, Jarrett Bay designs their hulls, first and foremost, with performance in mind. Jarrett Bay’s proven modified-vee hull design uses steadfastly seaworthy, lightweight materials allowing the Blank Check to be faster than other similarly sized boats with equal or more horsepower, and significantly superior fuel economy than custom and production boats in her class.

After decades of boat ownership, the Doyle’s knew exactly what they wanted in their next custom sportfish to ideally complement their pursuit of blue marlin the world over. “Jarrett Bay will do just about whatever you can envision. If you imagine it, they can build it,” stated Blank Check Captain Danny Hearn. “Everything is first-class and really sharp. The tower is massive, but extremely well balanced and proportional to the boat. An all-around awesome platform for the family to travel and fish from.”

Randy Ramsey, Jarrett Bay President, commented, “It has been especially meaningful for our crew of craftsmen to have a hand in the 77. The milestone of building our largest hull and working with such gracious yet discerning owners has given rise to the next benchmark in custom sportfish construction, and will be a well-earned feather in our craftsmen’s caps.”

After making her tournament circuit debut at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the Blank Check heads to search for more bluewater giants in Bermuda during July and St. Thomas in August before heading back to her home waters of Palm Beach. Be sure to follow her reports from the rip on Jarrett Bay’s digitals.

May Brokerage Sales Highest in Five Years

May Brokerage Sales Highest in Five Years
By John Burnham | jburnham@yachtworld.com
soldboats.com U.S. brokers reporting in SoldBoats.com had a good month in May, selling more boats than in any single month since 2007. Sales had improved in March and April, compared to 2012, but in May they climbed significantly, with 3,730 boats reported. This was well above the five-year average for May, of 3,293 boats sold, and also more than 100 boats above 2012, when 3,589 were sold.
Sailboat sales continued relatively strong, with 607 boats sold, a 5 percent increase compared to May 2012. More importantly for the market as a whole, sales of powerboat also rose 4 percent, to 3,123 boats.

Better sales were reported among all sizes of boat 45 feet or shorter, with 1,691 closings for boats under 35 feet, a 4 percent gain. In the 36- to 45-foot range, sales were 3 percent higher, with 759 boats sold. The only size range to record lower sales was 46 to 55 feet, down 3 boats compared to May 212, with 178 boats sold.

Big-boat sales were also strong. Among superyachts (over 80 feet), 20 were sold, up 10 from the year before. And in the 56- to 79-foot size, 82 boats changed hands, up from 76.

The total value of boats sold in May rose by $98 million, mainly on the strength of superyacht sales (up $91 million). By contrast, boats 56 to 79 feet sold at a total price that was $6 million or 10 percent below the previous May. The market under 55 feet made up the difference, with a total value gain of $13 million.

Through the first five months of the year, overall sales were 1 percent lower than in 2012, with 12,659 boats sold. The total value of the boats sold was 15 percent higher, with $1.66 billion changing hands.

On a recent morning, the PBT team was installing a tuna tower aboard a new Viking 66 Convertible that will head to Destin, Florida, in the coming weeks.

New Zealand Bound

Viking 82 Enclosed Bridge Headed for New Zealand

One of the most customized Viking 82 Enclosed Bridge Convertibles, 82022, strikes a dramatic pose with its gray-black hull against the leaden sky. This boat was specially built for a New Zealand owner with our exclusive Sky Bridge helm station and he can’t wait to take delivery next month. There are still a number of items on the punch list, including a few interior details, a custom aluminum bow rail, and an Atlantic Marine Electronics‘ navigation and communication package, but when this boat is finished it will be spectacular.

Viking 70

Viking 70 Convertible

The new 70 enjoys a familial resemblance to its siblings the Viking 82 and Viking 76. The aggressively raked stem featuring better than eight feet of freeboard forward is designed to make small work out of those big head seas typically encountered offshore when hunting marlin.
