2014 Ft Lauderdale Viking Fleet Report

Viking Yachts

Last year 4,305 people passed through the Viking Yachts‘ display during the five days of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This year with the world premieres of the new Viking flagship, the 92 Enclosed Bridge Convertible, the 75 Motor Yacht and the 52 Sport Tower similar crowds are anticipated, but this is only part of the story as nearly 1,000 feet of new Vikings will be displayed.

Viking Yachts

Besides these new introductions, our display also will feature our entire product line from 42 to 92 feet including this Viking 42 ST topped with a Palm Beach Towers‘ custom sport tower. An ideal day boat with a two-stateroom interior for overnight cruising, a command bridge deck and a functional cockpit for fishing and water sport activities, this popular model also features fuel efficient Cummins diesels matched to the Zeus pod-drive propulsion system.

Viking Yachts

Moving into the mid-size range, our 55 Convertible is a strong persuader for owners who yearn for an excellent performing tournament contender, with above average cruising accommodations for the family. The three-stateroom, two-head layout provides comfort and privacy, and the salon and galley abound with Viking‘s legendary attention to detail.  Powerful MAN V12 1550 CRM common rail diesels deliver a mid 30 knot cruise and a 40 knot top end.

Viking Yachts

‘s enclosed bridge models like this 62 EB provide the outstanding performance of our open bridge convertibles with a climate controlled helm easily reached from the salon, as well as from the mezzanine deck. The bridge serves as a virtual second salon with enticing amenities including a Stidd helm seat, companion seating, a raised L-shape lounge with a mappa burl cocktail table, a refrigerator, and an entertainment system. A strategically located pod-style docking station at the flying bridge overhang is standard.

The Viking 70 Convertible is the hottest ticket on the tournament fishing scene. Whether trolling 140 miles from the inlet, or where the nearest land is a mile beneath the keel nothing is left to chance in its mission as a blue-water competitor. Incredibly fast and luxuriously appointed, it has no equal.

See these Viking models and the rest of the fleet built in America with experience and pride at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30 through November 3, 2014.

NMMA Dissatisfied with U.S. Court of Appeals Decision to Dismiss Recreational Boating Industry Concerns about E15

NMMA is disappointed by the decision released on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to dismiss the recreational boating industry’s challenge of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rule regarding misfueling mitigation plans surrounding the sale of E15. The case specifically challenged the EPA’s plans to prevent misfueling including the use of what NMMA believes is a highly inadequate pump warning label amongst other insufficient means.

The court held that those bringing the case, including the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Engine Products Group (EPG) which includes NMMA, failed to establish Article III standing—because they “cannot show members have suffered or are with suffering an injury in fact (due to sales of E-15) that is traceable to the misfueling regulation and redressable by a favorable decision.” With this decision the court has set an extremely high bar for industry challenges to regulatory action and fails to fully comprehend the seriously flawed misfueling rule by the EPA.

In 2012, this same group of industry stakeholders, including others such as the Grocery Manufacturers Association, legally challenged the EPA’s authority to grant a partial waiver permitting the sale of E15. That case was also dismissed on procedural grounds including a “lack of standing.”

This latest decision not only continues to allow the potentially dangerous E15 at gas pumps across the country, but continues to put consumers and retailers at extreme risk. The EPA’s rule does not make provisions to ensure that low ethanol fuels like E10 remain at the pump for consumers who may require them nor does it take any actionable steps towards educating consumers about how to choose the correct fuel for their needs.

EPA has done little to no work towards consumer education to prevent misfueling. E15 fuel was approved by the EPA in 2011 for use in a subset of on-highway motor vehicles including model years 2001 and newer. However, marine engines and other non-road engines such as snowmobiles, lawn and garden equipment remain unapproved, inevitably leading to concerns of widespread misfueling and confusion. In 2012, NMMA at its own cost distributed labels for the marine industry to warn against fueling marine engines with E15. This year, NMMA joined the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute in supporting the Look Before You Pump campaign, again focused on helping consumers understand how to prevent hazards at the pump.

“NMMA will be working on behalf of the boating industry to do everything we can to prevent misfueling through education and to take the necessary actions to ensure that compatible, low ethanol fuels remain available and affordable for the 89 million boaters enjoying our waters across the United States.” said Nicole Vasilaros, director of federal and legal affairs for NMMA. “And while this decision is disheartening, the matter is far from over. NMMA continues to actively seek Congressional action that will reform the Renewable Fuel Standard and protect recreational marine products and consumers.”

Jarrett Bay Begins 90’ Construction – Its Largest Custom Sportfish to Date

Jarrett Bay Begins 90’ Construction – Its Largest Custom Sportfish to Date

Innovative Carbon Fiber Construction to Reduce Weight and Increase Performance

Beaufort, NC (October 7, 2014) – With specifications finalized, Jarrett Bay Boatworks announces the start of construction on their newest and largest custom sportfish. Upon a projected spring 2017 delivery, hull 62 will span 90 feet and represent the next evolution in offshore battlewagon performance and comfort, designed to tackle the remote fisheries of the world in ultimate style.

90 profile

Working with a customer armed with a knowledge of boats, high tech engineering, and a passion to competitively fish anywhere, the mandate was simple: to use state of the art materials, design, and electronics to create the ultimate sportfish boat. In putting together the team, Jarrett Bay has included firms from Michigan, Rhode Island, Florida, Washington and of course North Carolina. Looking to make use of the latest innovations in building techniques to maximize strength, speed and overall quality, the Jarrett Bay 90 will feature substantial use of titanium and carbon fiber composites, including a carbon fiber bridge, cabin, decks and stringer system. To ensure maximum performance and optimize the signature Jarrett Bay ride, extensive virtual tank testing, actual in-water tank testing, a detailed weight study (both initial and during the build), as well as composite testing are notable aspects of this build’s design process. Thanks to substantial weight reduction and increased structural strength, the end product will boast reduced loads, making the boat easier to handle and fuel efficient, all while yielding increased range and greater shear strength.

After buying and building boats of varying construction and sizes, the Jarrett Bay 90’s owner entrusted salesman John D Riggs with helping him reach this pinnacle of sportfish ownership. “It’s always great to play a role in delivering boating dreams, but this delivery and build process is one I’m especially proud to be a part of,” Riggs commented. “The friendship I have forged along the way will make it all the more exciting when we have that first blue at the back of the boat. I can’t wait to see if that’s in North Carolina, Panama, or the Vanuatu Islands!”

Asked to keep the material and build details close to the vest until construction progresses, Jarrett Bay can share the 90’s overall plan to provide the owners, guests & crew with the utmost in sportfish comfort in its six staterooms and five heads. Both the master & crew quarters will be full beam, with an office in the master and a centrally located laundry room. State of the art electronics are still being specified but will include Seakeeper’s latest stabilizer, high end centrally located A/V equipment, as well as redundant commercial grade electronics. Carrying 4,500 gallons of fuel, the Jarrett Bay 90 will have the range and speed to travel anywhere fast. Be sure to stay tuned as the construction progresses and the record books rewritten.
